Lied Across Kansas Program Visits Hoxie Grade School Students
The Lied Across Kansas Program visited HGS on Thursday, February 6th. Hoxie is one of a handful of schools that partner with the LIED Center for this program. We were added to the participating schools in 2020; this was our third program. The mission of the Lied Center is to provide performing arts opportunities for communities that are underserved in the arts.
This year's performers are Richard Jackson and Sharel Cassity. Richard is a jazz pianist and educator. He performs and teaches at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins - https://peabody.jhu.edu/
Hoxie Grade School students had the opportunity to learn about the saxophone, flute, and piano. Through the use of the instruments and a cowbell, they learned about tempo and dynamics in music. Richard and Sharel engaged the students in a fun, creative, and active performance that was enjoyed by students and staff alike.
