News Reports

During the school year, your child will be participating in the News Report program.  This will replace the traditional Show & Tell.  The purpose of the News Report is to increase your child’s language skills as well as to help develop a positive self image.  As a family, your enthusiasm and involvement in preparation of the News Report activities will help your child gain confidence and build their public speaking skills.

Each week your child may select news bulletins to share with the class.  They will need to be fun and positive bits of information.  The children often talk about pets, a new toy, or just daily events. We ask the children to stick to  the topics that are appropriate for group discussions.  If the topic gets too personal, I will ask the child to finish the discussion in private at a later time.

When it is their turn they will introduce themselves and then I will start a timer.  We will start at 30 seconds and then gradually increase the time.  The goal is to talk until they hear the beep.  This seems easy but is often a struggle when they stand before a large group.  If the child has a brain freeze we will give them a prompt.  We might ask them to tell us about their favorite game to play or their favorite place to eat.

Please help your child remember which day of the week they will have their turn.  You might suggest some fun facts for them to discuss.  This is such a fun way to get to know your child.

Your child’s day is determined by the first letter of their first name.
