DEBATERS COMPETE
Hoxie students jumped into the fray of competitive debate recently as the team of Skyler Denio and Devynn Snyder attended the Colby Invitational Debate Tournament.
This year the topic concerns “substantially increasing American economic involvement in Mexico, Cuba, or Venezuela.” The team’s affirmative plan advocated putting more money into the Merida Initiative with Mexico, a program begun during the Bush Administration
Fifteen novice and 18 open teams attended the meet. The Hoxie novices competed in five rounds against teams from Garden City, Dodge City, Scott City, and Colby. “Though we didn’t win any rounds, we came really close in the round against Colby. Devynn ranked first in speaker points in two rounds, which was a real plus. We gained lots of good experience and confidence for the future. Both students say they look forward to next year,” stated Mrs. Carter.
