FHSU Technology Studies Department sponsored a problem-solving competition which Hoxie Senior High School students competed in. This year’s Hoxie High School team consisted of sophomores Latham Schwarz and Zack Sherman and freshmen Jarrod Dible, Jake Geisinger, and Sam Bretz. Teams were given a mouse trap, masking tape, a Styrofoam cup, a dowel rod, and rubber bands. Teams were challenged to design and build a projection device that would propel a ping-pong ball at a designated bulls-eye board with a small hole cut in the center. They had to brainstorm several ideas and write them down, pick the best idea, and explain how this device would achieve its goal. Then they had to build this device in a limited amount of time. They were able to test it before the actual competition.
