SCHOLAR'S BOWL TEAM PLACES SECOND AT LEAGUE
Hoxie High School took the varsity team to the Northwest Kansas League Scholars Bowl Tournament in Oberlin on Monday, Jan. 9. Hoxie’s team consisted of seniors Noah Smith, Skyler Denio, Katelyn Reitcheck, Conner Depenbusch, and juniors Levi Smith, and Orlando Rivero. The team took second place at the tournament and was defeated by Oberlin.
Schools that participated in the tournament were Dighton, Sharon Springs – Wallace County, St. Francis, Greeley County - Tribune, Atwood – Rawlins County, Oberlin, and Quinter. Hoxie’s top three high scorers were Syler Denio with 130 points, Katelyn Reithcheck with 70 points, and Noah Smith with 50 points.
“The team did a great job. The last round was against Rawlins County and we were tied with them for second place. They only lost to us by five points when they buzzed in before the question was read and answered it incorrectly. It was a very close match,” said Coach Jackie Campbell.
The next scholars bowl tournament is the Regional Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 2, at Leoti – Wichita County.
