SEVENTH GRADE SCHOLARS BOWL TEAM PLACES SECOND
The Hoxie Junior High School Scholars Bowl team traveled to Oberlin for a tournament on Feb. 13. The competition was made up of eight teams: Oberlin, Greeley County, Dighton, Norton, Oakley, Rawlins County, Wallace County, and Hoxie. Hoxie’s seventh grade team placed second.
The seventh grade team consists of Hayley Jacobs, Jaylei Sloan, Heath Roberson, Norie Zerr, Molly Foote, Adam Heim, and Marissa Porsch. The eighth grade team consists of Baylee McKenna, Karlee Geisinger, Imagen Tremblay, Tirzah Howery, Emily Dercks, and Zoe Gregory.
Hoxie’s seventh grade team ended the competition with five wins and two losses to Greeley County and Norton. Marissa Porsch was the high scorer with 160 points, Heath Roberson came in second with 120 points, and Hayley Jacobs came in third with 80 points. At the conclusion of the seventh grade tournament, Norton again placed first, Hoxie took second, and Greeley County came in third.
Hoxie’s eighth grade team ended the rounds of competition with two wins and five losses to Wallace County, Rawlins County, Oakley, Greeley County, and Norton. Baylee McKenna was the high scorer with 210 points, Tirzah Howery came in second with 70 points, and Zoe Gregory came in third with 40 points. At the conclusion of the eighth grade tournament, Norton placed first, Oberlin took second, and Oakley came in third.
"The seventh grade team took home some medals which is a great accomplishment. Both seventh and eighth grade teams have been able to place this season, so I’m very proud of both teams. I hope to see the kids participate in scholar’s bowl next year,” said Coach Jackie Campbell.
