JUNIOR HIGH SCHOLARS BOWL TEAMS COMPETE
The Hoxie Jr. High School Scholars Bowl team traveled to Oakley for a tournament on Feb. 5, 2018. The seventh-grade team consists of Jaylei Sloan, Heath Roberson, Adam Heim, Donovan Balluch, Troy Swint, Clay Johnson, and Marissa eighth-grade team consists of Drew Bretz, Maddy Snyder, Derek Johnson, Zack Reynolds, Samantha Munk, and Carter Beckman. The competition was made up of nine teams: Colby, Goodland, Oberlin, Oakley (2 teams), Quinter, Scott City, Sharon Springs, and Hoxie. The eighth-grade team ended the rounds of competition with four wins and four losses to Oberlin, Oakley, Sharon Springs, and Scott City. Heath Roberson was the high scorer with 150 points, Troy Swint came in second with 50 points, and Jaylei Sloan came in third with 45 points. At the conclusion of the eighth-grade tournament Oakley placed first, Scott City took second, and Sharon Springs came in third.
Hoxie's seventh-grade team ended the competition undefeated, never losing a round. Drew Bretz was the high scorer with 240 points and Derek Johnson came in with a close second with 230 points. At the conclusion of the seventh-grade tournament, Hoxie placed first, OMS (Oakley) placed second, and Sharon Springs came in third.
"The seventh-grade team took home some medals which is a great accomplishment, especially since it was their first tournament. The eighth-grade team also did very well; they never game up. Hoxie still has a few more tournaments and a chance of placing at any of them,” said Coach Jackie Campbell. The next tournament is Monday, February 12, at Oberlin.
