HOXIE FFA PLACES AT LAND JUDGING
Fourteen individuals from Hoxie FFA traveled to Bird City on Sept. 17 to participate in the district’s land judging CDE (Career Development Event). At this contest, students evaluate the land and soil to see if it will be a good cropland or if it would be better as a pasture. In some classes, students have to evaluate the land to decide if it would be a good site to build a house on. Seven students competed in the Senior Division and the other seven competed in the Greenhand Division. Both teams placed and six individuals received medals.
The Greenhands placed first overall out of 12 teams. The four greenhands who placed in the top ten were freshmen Brooke Dorenkamp (1st), freshmen Latham Schwarz (2nd), sophomore Nicole Heim (7th), and freshmen Eric Thummel (8th). In addition, sophomore Erin Carter would’ve placed 6th but there was a problem with the scoring. In the Senior Division, Hoxie placed third overall out of 15 teams. Sophomore Skyler Denio placed third place and sophomore Katelyn Reitcheck placed eighth.
Students participating were: seniors Wade Niermeier and Breanna Slipke, juniors Kelsey Geerdes and Lara Stephens, sophomores Erin Carter, Skyler Denio, Nicole Heim, Devynn Snider and Katelyn Reitcheck and freshmen Brooke Dorenkamp, Lilly Schamberger, Zack Sherman, Latham Schwarz and Eric Thummel.
